DIRECTOR OF MUSIC: Flight Lieutenant Stephan van Lieshout Flight Lieutenant
Stephan van Lieshout enlisted in the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1992. On completion of his basic military training he was posted to RNZAF Base Auckland as Band Master of the Base Auckland Band. He was commissioned in 1994, and in May 1995 was appointed Director of Music Royal New Zealand Air Force, taking up the conductonrship of the Cental Band' His musical background includes time with the New Zealand Symphony 0rchestra, the Auckland Philharmonic, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and work as a music educator arranger and band director.
He has studied performance trombone at the Wellington Polytechnic Conservatorium of Music and continues to play trombone in various ensembles in Wellington. Under his direction the RNZAF Central Band has continued to develop and flourish, and is enjoying an ever increasing listening audience.
